Description :
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) affects nearly 1 out of every 10 children and is one of the most common childhood disorders today. Upon diagnosis, parents of ADD children are typically offered the option to medicate with Ritalin or a similar class of psychostimulant. Most parents are understandably reluctant to medicate their child for fear of a variety of possible side effects. Neurofeedback therapy is one of the only alternative or adjunct therapies proven to improve attention in this group of children but unfortunately traditional neurofeedback is extremely expensive (over HK$40,000/ course), tedious for the child and time consuming as it needs to be carried out at a clinician’s office. Playto proposes to offer a high-tech and much more convenient, engaging and affordable way to deliver this treatment to children by developing a fun computer game ‘Play2Focus’ that can be played on a mobile device and linked via bluetooth to a portable headset that can read the brain waves required to conduct the neurofeedback.
This initial phase of the project will include:
1. Development of game prototype
2. Development of simple parent dashboard to record and convey progress on therapy
3. Establishing proof of concept by conducting clinical trials
