Talon Esports, a Hong Kong-headquartered esports company that recently became a Cyberport incubatee, announced that it has entered into a multi-year partnership with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the legendary French football and multi-sports club. The two companies will operate a co-branded League of Legends (LoL) team called “PSG Talon” to compete in regional and global LoL tournaments.
With offices in Taiwan, South Korea, and Thailand, Talon Esports caught PSG’s eye because of its ambitions and popularity in Asia. The young and dynamic company, established in 2017, comprises competitive teams, streamers, and a creative studio. It has a global following as well as expertise and success in multiple games titles, including LoL, Overwatch, Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Rainbow Six Siege, Arena of Valor and Clash Royale.
Although Talon’s LoL team was only formed in late 2019, it has already earned the Pacific Championship Series (PCS) 2020 Spring Split championship after besting teams from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Bringing home this victory was a six-person team, with two Hong Kong players, Chun Kit “Unified” Wong and Kai Wing “Kaiwing” Ling, three South Korean players, and one Taiwanese player.
PSG Talon is now working on qualifying for the 2020 World Finals, scheduled to take place in Shanghai in November. The team will compete against regional champions from around the world and in front of nearly one million fans worldwide in the hopes of claiming the world champion title.
For PSG, the agreement marks a new brand diversification strategy to appeal to non-traditional football fans in key markets through esports. In addition to playing in the high-profile PCS series, PSG Talon will pursue other commercial partnerships and regionally tailored digital content creation. |
