However, with the Hong Kong Billiard Sports Control Council (HKBSCC) and HK Government’s limited training resources, kids have to wait until they are over eight years old for their turn at the snooker table.
This waiting game is about to change with Master Snooker Kingdom (MSK). This academy is not only set up to groom children as young as four years old, but also poised to build the world’s first EduTech-powered curriculum around the sport. Completed in April 2021 via the Cyberport Creative Macro Fund and admitted to Cyberport Incubation Programme (CIP) in June 2021, its snooker learning module uses Augmented Reality (AR) technology to cover basic training for young learners aged 4 to 10 years.
Co-founded by Marco Fu and a team of professionals in sports and education in 2019, MSK seeks to foster children’s whole person development, promoting snooker as a gentleman’s sport and developing soft skills such as patience, discipline, focus, leadership, and communication. Its Proprietary Learning Framework (PLF) is the one and only program endorsed by HKBSCC, and covers non-snooker training for enhancing STEM knowledge, among others.
To further promote the benefits of snooker sports in Hong Kong, MSK has also secured partnerships with renowned private clubs and associations such as South China Athletic Association (SCAA), Hong Kong Golf Club, Chinese Recreation Club, etc, as well as developing programs for schools and education centers such as Po Leung Kuk Schools, Cannan Kindergarten, Man Kiu Associate Primary School, and Be Confident Alliance (Beacon), etc.
Following the successful trial of its first AR-based module prototype, MSK is working to develop more EduTech applications for future integration in its PLF, with the goal of fully launching its AR snooker curriculum by 2022. With the support from Cyberport for its wide spectrum of network and connections, it also plans to expand its sole learning centre in Quarry Bay—the world's first junior snooker academy—to more centres in Hong Kong and Mainland China, by leveraging its strong network of 400+ schools and organisations.
