Cyberport has been closely collaborating with the Education Bureau to promote STEAM education in Hong Kong.
In addition to organising a new series of "Professional Development Programmes on Innovation and Technology for STEAM Co-ordinators of Schools" this academic year, Cyberport recently launched a new "Student Mentorship Programme on Innovation and Technology". It successfully attracted over a hundred primary and secondary schools to participate. After the second round of selection, 15 student teams ultimately made it to the final round and drew the attendance of over a hundred teachers and students at today's (March 19) Orientation-cum-Aspiration Day held at the Cyberport.
The Orientation-cum-Aspiration Day began with a speech by Mr Jeff Sze, JP, Under Secretary for Education. Following that, several student representatives, start-up representatives from Cyberport, and education professionals shared their insights on STEAM education in the group discussion session. During the event, 15 shortlisted projects were showcased, providing students with the opportunity to present their works to guests and interact with mentors from Cyberport startups.
Cyberport hopes that the participating teams, under the guidance of their mentors, can further improve their STEAM project. They aim to demonstrate their creativity and understanding of innovation and technology while gaining more inspiration from the learning process. The teams will publicly showcase their achievements in July this year.
Ir. Eric Chan, Chief Public Mission Officer of Cyberport said, “Following last year’s ‘Professional Development Programme on Innovation and Technology for STEAM Coordinators of Schools’, teachers have incorporated various examples of technological innovation and related elements into their teaching. This year, we are very pleased to cooperate with the Education Bureau to launch the ‘Student Mentorship Programme on Innovation and Technology’. Based on social pain points and everyday challenges, startups will directly guide students through the process of commercialization, cultivating future talents in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.”
