Hong Kong gamers
pull out all stops at Global Game Jam |
Cyberport was very pleased to be part of the Global Game Jam, hosting the
Hong Kong segment of the fun worldwide event, which saw the creation of over
3,000 games in just one week in late January.
Themed "We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are," this year's
Global Game Jam attracted 23,774 participants worldwide with Hong Kong
attracting 113 jammers and creating 19 games. Hong Kong was considered the 37th
biggest site among 488 locations in 72 countries.
An annual event run by Global Game Jam, a California based organisation, the
event draws together individuals from all walks of life to create video games
and non-digital games such as board games and card games within 48 hours.
Participants experience everything from ideation to testing including art
design, programming, game and sound design and user interface design and
testing.
The jam wrapped up following a two hour award ceremony during which sponsors
recognized the excellent work of particularly productive teams. Prizes were
given to the most innovative theme integration, the most solid piece for well
implemented asceticism and other mentions for innovation and strong visual.
Many of these games were later developed into commercial products or inspired
new ideas.
In collaboration with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Design, Cyberport tenant, Outblaze, was a sponsor of some of the grand prizes.
