New e-Health internship scheme develops future talent

Cyberport has introduced many initiatives aimed not only at developing ICT talent but also inspiring students to join the industry and providing unique opportunities for them to widen their horizons.

Cyberport's latest effort is the eHealth record Internship Programme launched in April following a six month pilot scheme first conducted in 2012.

The scheme launch comes hot on the heels of the imminent passage of a government bill which would see the implementation of a territory wide Electronic Health Record Sharing System to enhance the continuity and efficiency of healthcare services provided by the public and private sectors by the end of this year.

The scheme will widen the pool of qualified healthcare informatics professionals by equipping local graduates with the relevant knowledge and practical experience in a fast developing industry.  It also allows employers to identify and hire suitable graduates from healthcare related or IT disciplines.

The interns will learn about the deployment of the eMR/ePR systems to private healthcare providers, NGOs and IT vendors and participate in structural training that includes health informatics training, eHR related e-learning, seminars and company visits.

A briefing session on 29 April introduced the objectives, eligibility and scope of the scheme for both students and prospective employers.  Aside from tapping into future talents, participating employers will also be entitled to a cash subsidy of up to HK$6,000 per month per intern for a maximum term of 12 months.

The application deadline for company participation is 14 May.  Don't miss this invaluable opportunity to train for a better future!
