Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited
Annual Report 2013/14
CHAIRMAn’S STATEMEnT
主席的話
As a result of the positive feedback for our first three-year strategic
plan, it is clear that Cyberport is answering the needs of the
growing ICT community in the region. The Board therefore decided
to extend the plan for another three years with an additional
investment of HK$200 million in December 2013. Under the new
three-year strategic plan, we will strengthen our one-stop platform
for ICT start-ups and engage a wider audience with the aim of
fostering local talent.
Starting from our home base in Hong Kong, we will direct more
resources towards inspiring youth to participate in the ICT industry.
As competitions and hands-on training are often more conducive
to learning, we are planning to organise more of these activities.
We also intend to offer a wider spectrum of activities for the
younger generation to acquire practical working experience via
“eHealth Record” and “e+startup”, our local-oriented internship
programmes. In addition, we will expand our internship
programmes to more regions in Mainland and overseas, such as
Silicon Valley.
Riding on the success of our platform for start-ups, we will increase
close to 60% of awardees quota of our CCMF programme, which
has already received an overwhelming number of high quality
applications. We will also add 55% of admission quota for our
Cyberport Incubation Programme in the coming three years in line
with our strategic plan.
During the review period, we continued to help our grantees and
incubatees enhance their pitching skills — a need that is growing
among our community. With a focus on coaching graduated
incubatees to compete on an international level, we have
established the new “Cyberport Accelerator Support Programme”,
which brings together renowned mentors, former investment
pitching winners and star coaches to assist them acquiring skills for
securing funding support.
Reaching Out to a Wider Audience
In past years, we have made a concerted effort to help Hong Kong
technology start-ups gain a firm foothold in local and overseas
markets. This effort began to bear fruit during the review period.
Understanding how important it is to connect start-up companies
with potential partners and develop their competency skill sets, we
organised a diverse range of activities designed to foster the
growth of our community on a regional and global level. These
included cross-region educational events, trade missions,
competitions and overseas delegations. Across the border, we
worked with our partners in Shanghai to find placements for
students in Hong Kong via our “Hong Kong — Shanghai ICT
Internship Programme”, which has been attracting record numbers
of applications year after year. Looking ahead, we plan to extend
the geographical reach of all these programmes.
