First multi-format
supported platform launches at Cyberport |
Hong Kong's first multi format supported platform capable of hosting content
creators opened in January at the Cyberport Technology Centre.
The Master
Control Centre (MCC) serves as the nervous system of the Cyberport
Technology Centre for handling all incoming and outgoing signals, offering
centralized multi-channel and multi-function broadcasting capabilities to
support the DCX operation. It will form a main operation centre supporting
the high bitrate digital content and digital-based workflow for digital cinemas
to accommodate increasing alternative contents, such as concerts, operas and
ballets. Aside from these capabilities, it can also help streamline
the production workflow and is able to support 2D to 3D conversion, 2K and 4K
editing, and digital cinema output. The state-of-the-art platform can
encode and decode live signals to accommodate various video format transmission
for live broadcasting, allowing content creators and distributors to express
greater flexibility and creativity.
In late January, to coincide with the opening and in recognition of the growing
trend of 4K Ultra High Definition TV that brings brand new theatrical
experiences to audiences, Cyberport held a 4K technology seminar "Keeping your
hand on the pulse of 4K technology" to share new insights and demonstrations on
4K live broadcasting and filming. Guest speakers included Mr. Muneyuki Kii,
Corporate Executive Officer of T-JOY in Japan, Mrs. Sabrina Cubbon, Vice
President of Sales and Marketing at Asia Satellite Communications and Mr. Tony
Ngai, General Manager (Production and Technical Service) of Salon Films.
Participants also visited the centre and learned about 4K equipment and
production trends, and how innovative 4K technology is changing the vibrant
digital entertainment industry in Hong Kong.
