Background Information

Over the years, as the flagship for Hong Kong’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, Cyberport has provided funding and professional support through its public mission programmes to incubate start-ups, nurture young tech talent, promote business opportunities and drive the ICT industry’s development.

As part of the 2019-20 Budget, the Financial Secretary announced an earmark of $5.5billion for the Cyberport Expansion Project (the Project) with the aim to attracting more quality technology companies and start-ups to set up their offices within Cyberport, and to offer young people a pathway to pursue a career in Innovation and Technology.

The Project involves construction of a new office building (Cyberport 5) at a waterfront site opposite the existing Cyberport Arcade, as well as enhancement works to the existing waterfront park. Following the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council’s approval of the Project funding application in June 2021 and completion of the relevant statutory town planning procedures for land rezoning in the third quarter of 2021, construction commenced in the fourth quarter of 2021 with completion expected by end 2025 at the earliest.

Cyberport 5 is a new ten-storey (including the rooftop) office building with a Gross Floor Area of about 66 000 sq. m., comprising facilities such as office and co-working spaces, a data services platform, a multi-function hall and ancillary facilities.
